Guess what! It’s almost spring, as much as we love the snow, spring is right around the corner. This means getting into that blossoming mood and preparing our garden!
As we head into the month of March, here are some top crucial gardening tips that will make your garden shine!
- Cut old branches!
Not only are dead branches dangerous but any diseased or dead branches on plants or shrubs can affect the efficiency of growth of your garden. Pruning stimulates growth closest to the cut specifically in vertically shoots. In addition you can also prune any branches that affect the shape you want for your beautiful garden. Still, before you get those handy tools remember to check the pruning season of the plant you’re about to cut! Each plant or shrub has their own pruning season so make sure not to prune too early!
- Make sure the light is just right!
When patiently waiting for your plants to grow you need to make sure your plants are getting the light they need. Different plants entail different requirements for light, for example vegetables need at least 8 hours of direct sunlight. Including most vegetables a full sun is needed to produce the BEST harvest possible! On the other hand, you can also try growing cool-season crops such as lettuce, spinach, radishes and cabbage. Even with both methods, light is the most important ingredient!
- Add your mulch!
Once you have taken care of your plants and soil mulch will become your best friend. Adding mulch specifically to areas that have become thin as a result of the winter can help retain moisture in the garden and preserve the perfect temperature. It also keeps weeds from growing and sprouting in addition to preventing disease in your plants. Told you it would be your best friend!
- Fertilizer ain’t the answer!
As soon as people hear gardening they think fertilizer, yet you’d be surprised of what can make your garden the best in town! Quality soil! Having nutrient filled soil can make or break your garden. The ideal soil structure is easy to dig, crumbly, simply accepts water, and is loose enough to supply oxygen for plant roots. Healthy soil, healthy planet!
Even if you don’t have a garden out back, remember these helpful hints for any plant in your house!
I hope these techniques can help you maintain the perfect garden and ultimately make your spring the best one yet!
