You might have heard about the new and upcoming K-pop group called NewJeans. If you haven’t, let me tell you a bit about them!

NewJeans is a five member group who is under the company “Hybe.” They make Korean-pop music and have won over thirty awards within their debut. They have an outstanding discography, amazing dance moves and great energy.

 You might have heard some of their songs, the most famous being Super Shy, Ditto, OMG, ETA, and Attention. 

Despite being this outstanding group, they have gotten themselves into some controversy lately. Their producer Min Hee-Jin has been outed as a pedophile. Once their company, Hybe, found out about this they fired her. 

The members of NewJeans were devastated, and saw Min Hee-Jin as a parent figure. The new producer was hateful towards NewJeans, and didn’t take care of them or represent their voices. 

The Newjeans members decided to take this into their own hands, and go live on Youtube through a burner account. They shared their side of the story, explaining how they endured workplace harassment and unsanitary environments without Min Hee-jin. The members then stated they would quit the group if Min Hee-Jin didn’t return. 

After they ended the live, it was taken down hours later. We can assume Hybe took this down. The company refused to bring her back. I would like to say what happened next, though everything else is behind closed doors. 

Even after this scandal, Newjeans have been active. They were nominated for a few coachella awards though sadly didn’t win, and are still posting videos on social media. 

We can only hope that this scandal will be resolved in the best way possible, and that the Newjeans members will be treated fairly and with the respect they deserve.
