Biology and Science Teacher

By Andi Mayer-Goodman

“Why did you become a teacher?”

“Growing up I taught swimming and I really enjoyed it. A natural crossover was to become a teacher. My degree was in biology, and that is how I ended up becoming a biology teacher.”

“If you could have any job in the world, other than a teacher, what would you be?”

“Maybe I would be a nutritionist, I’ve always had an interest in biology and science.”

“What was your favourite subject in school?”

“Physical education was my favourite subject in school.  I’m pretty competitive, so I always liked playing sports and being on sports teams.”

“Do you enjoy teaching?”

“Yes, of course. I love my job.  All students bring something different to the table.  For instance, one of my past students, although not necessarily a high achieving biology student, introduced me to some great bands that I’ve come to love and listen to frequently.”

“Whats your favourite part about teaching biology?”

“Seeing the growth that happens in a semester with students and looking at progress within a student.”

“If you had the opportunity to go and colonize Mars, would you go?”

“No, because I love my life on earth. Although maybe after this recent US election I’ll change my mind and have to leave earth.”

“What are some of your hobbies?”

“I love to go out for dinner and trying new places. If I had to choose, I would eat tacos for the rest of my life. I also enjoy going to concerts and seeing live music.”

“Do you have any fun facts about your life?”

“I was in Thailand during the time of the 2004 tsunami. It was a crazy time.  I am a tsunami survivor.”

“Who is your favourite singer or band?”

“At the moment Father John Misty and The National are on heavy rotation.”
