It started with a goal in the second period by Austin Matthews assisted by TJ Brodie. This was followed by an amazing goalie performance by Ilya Samsonov, only letting in one goal by Anthony Cirelli in the third period, tying the game up and sending it into overtime. Tampa’s goalie, Andrei Vasilevskiy, certainly put up a good performance but he was no match for John Tavares who scored an amazing goal in overtime, securing the win for the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Leafs haven’t won the Stanley Cup since 1967. Their 52 season drought is the longest any team has gone without winning the cup. Additionally, the Leafs haven’t won a playoff series since 2004, breaking the 18 year streak, so this is indeed great news for Torontonians.
